The advantages of the laundry room

The clothes drying in the bathroom, the washing machine cluttering up the kitchen, the ironing board lying around in the living room… This permanent clutter is becoming more and more annoying. The remedy: create a practical and functional laundry room.

Once reserved for large mansions, the laundry room can now easily be integrated into the home.

It is the practical room par excellence. The laundry room is the place dedicated entirely to laundry, storage of household products and kitchen accessories. In short, it gathers all that is necessary to make your house run properly. The laundry room is also used to hide everything that is practical but not always pleasing to the eye! First of all, this small room allows you to unclutter the bathroom or the kitchen. Ideally, it is located in a small room in the basement. The noise and vibrations of the various machines will not disturb anyone. But, if you don’t have a garage or a dedicated room, the laundry room can also be attached to the kitchen or hidden under a staircase.

The essential appliances and accessories for a laundry room

The laundry room must be intelligently designed for optimal working conditions. The washing machine and dryer are indispensable. Not all of your delicate clothes go through the wash. Don’t forget to include a sink and drying rack. The latter can be mounted on the ceiling or on a wall. If you don’t have a lot of space, you can use a retractable line. Once the laundry is done, the classic or retractable ironing board is at hand.

The laundry room, just like the kitchen or the bathroom, cannot escape the optimization of space. Choose furniture that fits the dimensions of your room and provides maximum storage space. Shelves and cupboards can flourish from floor to ceiling. They will hold your detergents, laundry detergent, fabric softener and stain removers. If your laundry room is cramped, opt for sliding doors. Provide a work surface or a folding table to fold your clothes. Ingenious drawers can give you access to baskets. They will allow you to sort out dirty clothes or to store those waiting to be ironed. Hooks and hooks can be added to the free walls. Also consider installing a trash can. It is very useful to throw away empty bottles, papers from trouser pockets or dust from the dryer filter.

There are, however, certain constraints to take into account in order to easily connect your washing machine, iron and other electrical appliances. First of all, you must have a water supply and a waste water drain. Next, install outlets and, most importantly, a 20-amp high-sensitivity circuit breaker. Finally, your laundry room must be equipped with a window or a controlled mechanical ventilation (CMV). These devices allow to evacuate humidity and to avoid condensation.
